As more reveal their personality through what they wear, Miller believes players like Harper can set an example for other athletes on how to use fashion to show another side of themselves. (Mitchell Leff / Getty Images)īaseball players generally don’t have a lot of leeway to display creativity through their clothing on the field, though Major League Baseball has loosened uniform restrictions within the last couple of years, leaving room for players to sport customized cleats for a game. It’s always an exciting thing for us.”īryce Harper, wearing his Phanatic cleats, on Opening Day. Some people probably thought it was goofy, but you can’t please everyone, no matter what. “It’s not just one person enjoying it, but his fans are enjoying it. “It’s always very exciting to, first of all, bring someone’s concept into reality, and that’s always exciting to see something that was in your head all of a sudden be a reality,” Miller said. Harper confirmed the day after Opening Day that all of the crystals stayed on, joking he hadn’t done much in the game after going 0-for-3. Miller made sure there was enough glue coverage on the cleats, though she told Under Armour the crystals might not hold up if Harper slid during the game. Approximately 10,000 Swarovski crystals were then applied. “I think there might have been one that we didn’t have the fur in it.”Īfter the plans were finalized, the design was hand-painted onto the cleats. “As soon as they started to tell me they wanted to design around the Phanatic, my very first thought was fuzzy fur on the shoe, and so that kind of stayed with most of all of the designs just because that’s kind of where my mind went,” Miller said. Originally, the cleats were fully covered in crystals, which had to be scaled back. She gave them the designs, and they picked their favorite, with a little tweaking. She sketched out five versions of the cleats in February and detailed the materials she would use. They gave her some guidelines to work with. Harper, who has a shoe and apparel deal with Under Armour, told the company to reach out to Miller for help with his Phanatic cleats. Miller also made the jackets seen in Kayla’s Instagram post in April 2019 to announce her pregnancy with the couple’s now-1-year-old son, Krew. She created a Vegas Golden Knights jacket for Bryce in 2018 as a surprise from Kayla. A few years ago, she made a star-studded jacket for his wife, Kayla, ahead of a Washington Nationals postseason appearance. This wasn’t the first time Miller had worked with the Harpers. So when Bryce Harper wanted customized cleats to pay homage to the Phillie Phanatic on Opening Day - a tradition he started on his Phillies debut last year and plans to continue through the end of his 13-year contract - Miller brought it to life. □□□□ #chiefs #titans #tennesseetitans #kansascitychiefs #nfl #nflplayoffs #customjersey #customteamwear #thediamondduchess #leahmiller #bellaartistry #bellaartistryboutiqueĪ post shared by □Leah Paulovich Miller□ on at 7:08pm PST The Championship matchup is set….is your game day gear?
